Course overview
Fine Arts Practice and Research reviews key theory and concepts applied in contemporary art practice and practice-based research in the fine arts. It will build upon students’ understanding of practice and research in the field, while introducing advanced methods and methodologies through an examination of case-studies. Students will interrogate their motivations, interests and practices to locate their work within the expansive field of contemporary art and develop a research plan. The course cultivates critical thinking and problem-solving skills, equipping students with skills to engage with pressing contemporary issues and communicate their ideas effectively, whether in professional practice or practice-based research in higher degrees.

- Articulate relevant concepts applied in contemporary art practice and research methodologies to a level appropriate for professional practice or further research.
- Demonstrate understanding of practice and research in the field through discussion of methodologies and methods and analysis of historical and contemporary artists.
- Interrogate motivations, interests, and techniques to locate their practice within the broad field of art and creative practice.
- Demonstrate critical engagement with contemporary issues in art or society and application of these insights to create a rigorous creative project proposal.
- Communicate ideas effectively in writing, in contexts of professional practice and/or creative research practice.
