Overview

Adelaide University’s Diploma in Languages develops your language and communication skills as well as your intercultural understanding – capabilities that are highly regarded by employers.

You’ll study eight courses in one or more languages alongside your chosen degree. These courses are studied over one to four years depending on the length of your degree. Typically, the diploma adds one year to your overall study time.

Whether you’re starting as a beginner or continuing from your current level, you’ll build practical speaking, reading and writing skills in your chosen language(s).

You’ll also explore related cultures and develop the understanding needed to communicate confidently across cultural contexts.

By complementing the subject knowledge gained through your chosen degree, the diploma equips you to consider challenges from different perspectives and apply your skills in diverse professional, community and global settings.

What you'll learn

Throughout the Diploma in Languages, you’ll develop practical language and intercultural skills that you can apply to problem-solving, and collaboration in diverse professional, community and global contexts.

You’ll learn to communicate and work across linguistic and cultural boundaries with cultural awareness, ethical judgement and social responsibility. This will help you respond respectfully and effectively in cross-cultural situations.

You’ll also build independent learning and reflective practice skills to support your continued language development.

The Diploma in Languages offers language and cultural courses in:

  • Chinese
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
