In the Library and Information Management specialisation, you’ll learn all about libraries – including digital collections. Explore the skills, knowledge and practises used by information management professionals. Advance your industry knowledge and leadership potential. Learn modern information description and discovery practices. Complete a practical fieldwork project.
You’ll graduate with industry accredited skills, ready to lend support in public libraries, school libraries, academic libraries or specialist libraries such as health or law. Or advance straight into the master’s program to pursue a senior leadership role in the field.

What you'll learn
The Library and Information Management specialisation builds technical skills, professional knowledge and adaptability. You’ll learn traditional library skills – like cataloguing books – and modern information technology tools, such as databases and digital archives.
You’ll study industry aligned courses, including:
- Information management foundations
- Information management professional practice
- Technological foundations
- Information resources
- Information description and discovery.
You’ll also undertake a range of electives aligned with your career interests – from information advocacy and metadata to research services in academic libraries. You'll use what you've learned to support an industry partner on a specialised project.
Explore principles of organisation and management in both traditional and digital environments. Practise designing webpages, using content management systems and working with cloud technologies. Build human resource and project management skills. Learn to lead teams, resolve conflicts, manage change and handle finances. Consider industry approaches to marketing, strategic planning and policy and program design.
This graduate diploma is offered as part of a suite of three programs (graduate certificate, graduate diploma and master). Each qualification extends to the next, so you can easily transition to a master level qualification.
If you decide to exit this qualification having completed the first four courses, you will receive the Graduate Certificate in Information Management. If you finish and want to do further study, consider going on to the Master of Information Management specialising in Library and Information Management.
