Entry requirements

Admission criteria

'Entry is available ONLY to students who commenced a three-year bachelor degree in 2025 or earlier at The University of Adelaide or University of South Australia.

To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfill any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria.

A bachelor (AQF level 7) degree or equivalent with a major or specialisation in a discipline aligned to the proposed field of research from The University of Adelaide or University of South Australia completed in 2025 or later and demonstrating a high level of academic achievement, normally achieving at least a Credit average throughout their degree; AND

An example research essay of approximately 3000-5000 words on a music-related topic; AND

Demonstration of skills of a standard equivalent to successful completion of the third year of an undergraduate degree (for Elder Conservatorium of Music graduates, you will not need to audition as your major recital result, or equivalent for non-performance majors, will be used in lieu of an audition); AND

Availability of a suitable supervisor or project in the proposed area of research.
