Future in Focus

Student in a lab

We are calling on all South Australian High School students in their final years – have you considered medical research as a career?

Robinson Research Institute, supported by Adelaide University’s College of Health, is proud to run Future in Focus again this year. This dynamic initiative is designed to inspire and support the next generation of researchers, clinicians, and health professionals.

About Future in Focus

At the heart of this program are two exciting opportunities for High School students in South Australia: the Future in Focus Work Experience Program and the Future in Focus Scholarship.

Future in Focus Work Experience Program

Running from 30 November to 4 December 2026, this immersive 5-day program invites Year 10 – 12 students in South Australia with a passion for science, health, and medicine to step into the world of cutting-edge research in reproductive, maternal, and children’s health.

Participants will:

  • Get hands-on experience in real research laboratories
  • Explore topics like fertility, genetics, and reproductive health
  • Hear about real-world medical challenges
  • Meet leading scientists, doctors, and innovators
  • Discover future career pathways in STEMM and health research.

Engaging sessions include a visit to a research laboratory and the Adelaide Health Simulation suite, an introduction to current research projects including designing and presenting your own research project, and an opportunity to attend the annual Robinson Research Institute Symposium, equipping students with rich and varied insight into the world of health research.

Regional students are encouraged to apply

To support equitable access to the work experience program, the College of Health at Adelaide University is offering the College of Health Future in Focus Travel Support Scholarship for one regional student of up to $3,500 to assist with travel and accommodation costs.

Future in Focus Scholarship

The Future in Focus Scholarship will provide a High School student with up to $2,000 over two years, helping to cover essential school expenses like tuition fees, IT equipment, uniforms, or tutoring.

The scholarship recipient will automatically be invited to join the work experience program and visit our Institute, where they will have the opportunity to:

  • Connect with researchers
  • Learn about real research projects
  • Explore tertiary study and career opportunities.

The scholarship is designed to support students during their Years 11 and 12 who are passionate about health and science, who attend a public High School in South Australia and who may be experiencing financial or personal challenges. Current Year 10 students meeting the criteria are invited to apply.

Applications

Applications for both opportunities will open in the middle of July and close in mid-August 2026.
