The Commonwealth Scholarships Program is funded by the Australian Government through the Indigenous Student Success Program (ISSP).
There are five different types of Commonwealth Scholarships.
- Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship – Indigenous Enabling (ICAS-IE)
- Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship – Indigenous Enabling (ICECS-IE)
- Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship – Undergraduate (ICAS-UGRD)
- Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship – Undergraduate (ICECS-UGRD)
- Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship - Postgraduate Coursework (ICECS-PG)
Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs (ICECS-Undergraduate) - provides A$4,000 a year for up to four years to assist with general study costs.
Payment is made twice a year following Semester 1 and Semester 2 census date.

Eligibility
- Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Student
- Be enrolled full time at any undergraduate program at Adelaide University
- Demonstrate financial and/or other educational barriers that impact access to study or continued study
- Not already have completed a bachelor's or higher level award unless
each such award is a prerequisite to their current undergraduate program
of study and there is no alternative pathway into that program of study
at Adelaide University.
Selection criteria
- Selection of the successful candidate will be made by Coursework Scholarships and Prizes Office according to financial need and answers to questions on the application form.
- Students in receipt of other Adelaide University Scholarships may apply for this Scholarship.
- Students are ineligible to receive an Indigenous Commonwealth Educations Costs Scholarship if they have already received the scholarship for the maximum duration of eight scholarship periods.
Important information
- The number of scholarships available each year will be reviewed in consultation with the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous).
- The Scholarship may be discontinued, including mid-tenure, if the Federal Government, ceases its financial support of the Scholarship.
- The scholarship will be terminated where: 1. a student ceases to be enrolled in the approved program of study at the University; 2. a student has provided false or misleading information with regard to their personal details; 3. a student is guilty of serious misconduct in terms of the University Policy Rules for Student Conduct in the University.
- The University may vary the rules from time to time in a manner consistent with the University’s legal obligations and policies.
