The Lyn Hepburn-Brown Regional Nursing Grant has been established by Lyn Hepburn-Brown to support students who completed high school in an outer regional, remote or very remote area within the last five years and are undertaking the third year of the Bachelor of Nursing (internally only) at Adelaide University attending the City, Whyalla, or Mount Gambier campus. The grant is designed to ease the financial burden of placement costs, help students complete their studies, and contribute to the future healthcare workforce.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Have completed high school in an outer regional, remote or very remote area within the last five years
  • Be undertaking the third year of the Bachelor of Nursing (internally only)
  • Be attending the City, Whyalla or Mount Gambier campus
  • Be an Australian Citizen, permanent resident of Australia, New Zealand Citizen or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
  • Demonstrate they are in financial need*
    *Applicants must demonstrate financial need and provide supporting documentary evidence at the time of application, e.g. details of income tested Commonwealth income support payment, such as Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY benefits, or other details of their financial circumstances.

Selection criteria

Selection of the successful candidate will be made according to:

  • Academic merit (GPA)
  • Financial need
  • Evidence of a professional membership with the Australian College of Nursing (ACN)
  • Evidence of completion of secondary school in an outer regional, remote or very remote area in South Australia within the last five years
  • Written statement

Important information

  • You must meet all of the above listed criteria to be eligible to apply
  • The Grant must be taken up in the year in which it is offered
  • Students must respond to the questions requesting a statement addressing their reasons for studying Nursing and their future goals, how the grant will assist them and details of any community service or involvement.
  • Outer regional, remote or very remote areas are determined according to the Health Workforce locator
  • Students in receipt of other Adelaide University Scholarships or Grants under the value of $5,000 per grant may apply for this Grant.
