The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully-funded postgraduate award which enables talented young people from around the world to study full-time at Oxford University. Consistently ranked among the top universities globally, this scholarship provides the opportunity to receive an exceptional postgraduate education. Rhodes Scholars go to the UK for two or more years and can apply to study most full-time postgraduate courses in almost any field offered by Oxford University.
The Rhodes Scholarship is merit-based, with the purpose of developing public-spirited leaders, and to promote international understanding and peace through an international community of Scholars.
Eligibility
Eligibility Criteria include:
- Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
- Completed at least two years of schooling at an Australian secondary school.
- Aged between 18-24 on 1 October 2026, OR (for older candidates who completed their first undergraduate degree later than usual) you must be under age 27 on 1 October 2026.
- Completed, or will have completed by July 2027, an undergraduate degree with First-Class Honours or a Masters degree, or equivalent.
- A high GPA (greater than 6.75/7) as well as other indicators of academic achievement, such as awards or prizes.
Selection criteria
Provide evidence of:
- Literary and scholastic attainments (academic excellence).
- Energy to use one's talents to the fullest, where passion for developing yourself extends outside the classroom.
- Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship.
- Moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one's fellow beings.

How to apply
There are nine scholarships available each year for Australia.
For study in 2027, applications open on 1 June, 2026 and close 11 August, 2026.
The scholarship covers all University and College fees, a personal stipend, and return economy class airfare to the UK.
Applicants apply directly through the Rhodes online application portal on the website, but support for your application is locally available by contacting rhodes@adelaide.edu.au. The State Administrator sits within Adelaide University and is available year round to answer questions and meet with prospective candidates.
