The John David Fewings Supplementary Research Scholarship in Neuroscience was established through a generous bequest from respected neurologist Dr John David Fewings. A distinguished alumnus of the University of Adelaide, Dr Fewings completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1961 and a Doctor of Medicine in 1966, later returning to pursue his interests in viticulture and oenology. 

Through this scholarship, Dr Fewings’ legacy will continue by supporting postgraduate students from Adelaide University who are undertaking graduate research in neuroscience and helping to advance discovery in the field.

The successful applicant will receive a stipend of $8,000 paid fortnightly for up to 3.5 years.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, New Zealand citizen, Permanent Humanitarian visa holder, or international student; and
  • be commencing a full-time Graduate Research degree at the Adelaide University; and• be undertaking research in the area of neuroscience; and
  • be a recipient of a major scholarship.

Selection criteria

The scholarship will be awarded via a competitive selection process managed by the Adelaide University Graduate Research School, based on academic merit, research potential, benefit to the applicant’s graduate research program and relevance to neuroscience.
