Online portal for personal IT purchases

University of Adelaide staff and students can purchase personally-owned computers and related equipment from a new online portal, accessing the competitive pricing available to the University.

  • Need a new laptop or equipment at home?

    University of Adelaide staff and students can access competitive prices for computers and related equipment via a new online portal initiated by ITDS. Through the portal, you can purchase personal devices from CompNow, the University’s preferred supplier for computer devices, using the competitive pricing available to the University, and have them delivered directly to your home address. CompNow is the preferred provider used for University-owned computers and devices used by staff.

    When considering purchasing a computer that will have work-related use, ITDS recommends the purchase of laptops rather than desktop computers to support future ways of working, and agile ways of working into the future.

  • Accessing the portal

    To access the portal, simply register here with your University of Adelaide email address, and set a password. Purchases can be made by credit card or direct debit transfer.

  • A support for UoA Staff and Students

    This initiative is being provided as a support for staff and students at the University. The portal may be used for any purchase, including for personal use at home, or a gift. For information on tax claiming, if applicable, refer to the ATO or seek professional advice.

  • How do the prices compare?

    This portal provides an option, but as with any purchase, it is a good idea to shop around for price comparisons and the offer that best suits your needs. A benefit of this option is that you are accessing the prices available to the University at a time when prices for some items can be inflated through some providers, and there are some supply issues. Various providers do offer special student or education pricing, so we still suggest that you ‘shop around’ for the offer that suits you, and ensure you are comparing like with like when looking at prices.

  • How did this offer arise?

    This initiative arose because the Information Technology and Digital Services branch at the University asked our computer supplier, CompNow, to extend the prices it offers for the University’s computers and equipment, for personal purchases for staff and students. The University is not incurring a cost, or receiving any financial benefit from this offer. Various providers do offer special student or education pricing, and can have attractive sales, so we still suggest that you ‘shop around’ for the offer that suits you, and ensure you are comparing like with like when looking at prices, for example, in relation to warranties and various specifications.

    CompNow is an Australian company, established in 1990, which provides installation, removal and procurement of laptops, desktop computers, tablets and accessories to the University. It has agreed to extend its University pricing to staff and students to buy personally-owned equipment directly.
