The Adelaide University Pathways College is recognised for its leadership in refugee education, with academics whose work has shaped institutional and sector-wide approaches to supporting students from refugee backgrounds in enabling programs. Since 2018, the College has designed and implemented innovative, evidence-informed initiatives that foster inclusive learning environments and improve student success.

Working in partnership with students, schools, community organisations, and sector stakeholders, the College has developed culturally responsive support models that recognise and build on the strengths, experiences, and aspirations of refugee-background learners. Through a co-design approach, these initiatives have strengthened access, belonging, and academic success, receiving international recognition from the UNHCR in 2025.

These initiatives have delivered measurable results, contributing to an increase in student completion rates from 47% in 2018 to 63% in 2024. The College also partners with educators and institutions to embed inclusive pedagogies and evidence-informed practices that promote equity, belonging, and success for students from refugee backgrounds.

Beyond the University, Pathways College academics work collaboratively with national refugee education networks, government and community organisations, and higher education providers to inform policy, professional learning, and program development. Through research, publications, conference presentations, webinars, and collaborative partnerships, the College shares its expertise to strengthen equitable pathways into higher education across Australia.

The Pathways College welcomes opportunities to partner with schools, universities, community organisations, government, and industry to develop innovative approaches that expand educational access, build inclusive learning environments, and improve outcomes for students from refugee backgrounds.

Our STEM and Health Science education experts are recognised leaders in enabling and transition pedagogy, building curiosity and confidence in science and health, particularly for students who may not see themselves as capable science learners. Grounded in Critical Enabling Pedagogy, our approaches combine academic rigour with high levels of support.

Our expertise spans curriculum redesign, authentic assessment, online and blended learning, and student transition. We design scaffolded assessments that progressively build capability through practical investigations, skills demonstrations, low-stakes quizzes and interactive oral assessments, and we lead innovative approaches to assessment integrity in response to challenges such as generative AI.

We create active, memorable learning that connects concepts to students' lived experiences through simulations, role plays and real-world scenarios. We welcome opportunities to partner with schools, universities, government and industry.

Critical Enabling Pedagogy (CEP) is a research-informed approach to teaching, learning and educational leadership that helps educators create more inclusive, engaging and socially just learning environments. Developed over more than a decade by Adelaide University Pathways College Director Associate Professor Sarah Hattam and Associate Professor Tanya Weiler, it has been recognised nationally for its impact on student success, educator practice and institutional change.

We partner with universities, schools, TAFEs, community organisations and government to put CEP into practice, through tailored workshops, professional learning, consulting, keynote presentations, collaborative research and curriculum design. Whether you want to strengthen engagement, redesign learning, develop staff capability or embed more equitable practices, we create solutions that make a lasting difference.
