Senior Executive Mission visits the UK and Germany

Senior delegates from the University of Adelaide, including Professor Peter Høj AC, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jessica Gallagher, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement) and representatives from Global Engagement, the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology and Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, embarked on a Senior Executive Mission to the UK and Germany in May.

This Mission focused on strengthening collaboration with existing partners, connecting with alumni through 150th celebrations, and enhancing the University’s profile and visibility in the region.

In the UK, the delegation met with several organisations and partners, including the University of Nottingham, the University of Surrey, and the Australian High Commission.

The growing reach and impact of the Adelaide-Nottingham Alliance (ANA) was celebrated at the second ANA Symposium during the delegation’s visit to the University of Nottingham, with approximately 80 staff and students from both institutions in attendance. The long-standing student exchange agreement with the University of Nottingham was also renewed.

Over 100 guests, including His Excellency The Hon Stephen Smith, Australian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Elisabeth Bowes PSM, Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, alumni and partners, attended the University of Adelaide’s 150th Celebrations at Australia House. Professor Thomas Smith, Reader in Aerospace Medicine and Head of Aerospace Medicine Research, King’s College London, presented at the event as the University’s guest alum speaker.

In Germany, the delegation met with the senior staff of the University of Freiburg, including Professor Dr Kerstin Krieglstein, Rector, and Professor Dr Melanie Arndt, Vice Rector for Internationalization and Sustainability. During the visit, Dr Laurine Kaul, Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, Group Leader at the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy, discussed her experiences as a joint PhD student at the University of Adelaide and the University of Freiburg.

Following on from the Mission, a Global Opportunities and Impact Forum was hosted by Global Engagement for University of Adelaide staff and students. This Forum provided an overview of recent engagement activities and outcomes from the Senior Executive Mission, and provided information on partnership objectives and initiatives, research opportunities and funding available to support partnership work with institutions in the region.
