Ocean University of China delegation visits the University of Adelaide
A delegation from one of the University of Adelaide’s (UoA) most important international partners, Ocean University of China (OUC), visited the University’s North Terrace campus in July to strengthen and expand the partnership between the two institutions.
This was the first official visit by Professor Zhang Junfeng, President, OUC, to the University of Adelaide since his inauguration in December 2023.
The visit began with a meeting with Professor Peter Høj AC, Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Jessica Gallagher, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement), where a three-party Memorandum of Understanding was signed with OUC and the Australian Education Management Group.
The delegation then attended a roundtable with the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology (SET) and the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, chaired by Professor Scott Smith, Deputy Dean (International), SET.
Other activities in the program included a meeting with UoA’s English Language Centre and Professional and Continuing Education to explore further collaboration opportunities, a Haide College student welcome event at Elder Hall, a tour of UoA’s Adelaide Health Simulation facility, and a Welcome Dinner at the National Wine Centre.
The University of Adelaide’s relationship with OUC was established through the founding of the Joint Education Institute, Haide College, in 2018. The first cohort of Haide College students graduated from OUC in July 2024.
There have been several reciprocal visits between OUC and the University of Adelaide post-COVID, including a UoA Senior Executive Mission (SEM) to OUC and an OUC Vice President (International) visit to UoA in 2023.
Another University of Adelaide Senior Executive Mission will visit OUC in October 2024, which will include a joint celebration for UoA’s 150th and OUC’s 100th anniversary. 2024 is also the 10th anniversary of the Adelaide + Qingdao sister city relationship.
