Privacy and AI: New OAIC Guidelines Released

On 21 October 2024, the OAIC released two new privacy guidelines relevant to the use of AI by businesses and developers:

  • Guidance for businesses on the use of commercially available AI products; and
  • Guidance for developers on the use of personal information to train generative AI.

These guidelines provide important insights into the privacy regulator’s expectations for privacy compliance when using and training AI systems. They also include very practical tips and checklists.

If you use or develop AI in your University role, you should carefully consider whether your existing AI practices are safe and compliant.

If you have any questions about the privacy aspects of your AI-related activities, please send them to helpdesklegal@adelaide.edu.au.
