Health engagement in Africa

Based within the School of Public Health at Adelaide University, JBI is dedicated to improving patient outcomes by bridging the gap between clinical research and real-world hospital practice.  In Africa, JBI has several collaboration entities in Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Cameroon and South Africa, working with universities, research centres, and health organisations to address locally relevant health system challenges and priorities.

Across Africa, JBI’s collaborations focus on building sustainable research capability, supporting context‑appropriate evidence use, and strengthening health systems through training, research leadership, and implementation science. Together, these partnerships position African institutions as active contributors to the global evidence ecosystem and reinforce JBI’s commitment to international, impact-focused collaboration.

Supporting sponsored students from Africa and the Middle East

Adelaide University works with a diverse range of sponsors across the Middle East and Africa, supporting students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across disciplines including engineering, health, sciences, business, and education. This includes strong engagement with the Australia Awards Scholarships across Africa, funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Sponsored students receive academic and pastoral support throughout their studies, enabling them to succeed at Adelaide University and return home equipped with advanced skills, global perspectives, and professional networks to contribute to their communities and countries. Sponsored students from the region form an integral part of the University’s global community and alumni network, and contribute to enduring collaboration well beyond their time in Australia.
