About the Centre for Islamic Thought and Education
The Centre for Islamic Thought and Education (CITE) is Australia’s only dedicated research centre focused specifically on education and schooling within the Islamic intellectual tradition, advancing rigorous scholarship, sector-leading professional learning, and strategic partnerships to renew Islamic schooling both nationally and internationally. Situated at the intersection of Islamic intellectual traditions and contemporary educational theory, our research spans Islamic educational philosophy, including Islamic pedagogy, tarbiyah, curriculum renewal and educator formation. The Centre undertakes theoretical, conceptual and empirical research, including school-based case studies and sector-wide studies, alongside applied and policy-informed projects that translate scholarship into practical frameworks for curriculum design, leadership development and whole-school renewal. A defining feature of our work is our commitment to bridging research and practice, ensuring that Islamic educational thought remains intellectually robust, socially responsive and future focused. Through sustained collaboration with Islamic schools, peak bodies, international scholars, and community and philanthropic partners, and as convenor of the Islamic Schooling Conference, we serve as a global hub shaping innovative, research-informed transformation across the Islamic education sector.
