Course overview

To provide Bachelor of Science (Food Science and Technology) students with the opportunity to undertake a structured, industry-aligned placement that develops their professional skills within the food sector aligned to the course learning outcomes. Through the completion of 120 hours of placement in an approved setting and the maintenance of an industry project report, students will consolidate their learnings and practical experience and enhance their professional readiness.

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply disciplinary and professional knowledge in a real-world food industry workplace to contribute effectively to routine tasks, projects, or operations under supervision.
  • Demonstrate appropriate workplace behaviours, including communication, teamwork, time management, and adherence to industry safety, ethical, and professional standards as appropriate to the specific sector of the food industry.
  • Collect, document, analyse [BW1.1]and critically reflect on workplace experiences, learning and projects in a structured report and/or presentation, identifying links between theory and practice in the food sector.
  • Evaluate personal strengths, skill development, and career aspirations in relation to the food industry, identifying areas for further professional growth and employability development.
