Course overview

To extend knowledge of health, exercise and sport psychology principles to determine the social, psychological and environmental factors that influence exercise and health behaviours, sport participation and human performance, and apply appropriate best-practice behavioural strategies and theories to advance individuals and groups in health, exercise, and sport settings.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain psychological, social, and environmental determinants of physical activity, exercise and sport participation, and health behaviours.
  • Explain the relationships between physical activity, sport and exercise, and psychological wellbeing.
  • Apply behaviour change theories, techniques, and motivational communication strategies to support exercise participation and health behaviours.
  • Design evidence-informed behaviour change interventions to promote physical activity, exercise, and health behaviour adherence.

  • Must have completed HUMV1001 Motor Development and Ageing OR must have completed PSYC1001 Understanding Individual Behaviour and Cognition AND must have completed PSYC1003 Health and Developmental Psychology
