Course overview
To provide students with an understanding of Indigenous Nation Building and Governance as a significant factor for Aboriginal communities to achieve their economic and community development aspirations. Students will engage with Nation Building theorists and practitioners to explore Indigenous Nation Building as a governance and community planning tool for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to achieve their economic aspirations.

Course learning outcomes
- Identify the elements of colonisation that have impacted on Indigenous knowledges, governance and cultures and the implications for rebuilding Indigenous Nations in a contemporary context
- Critically analyse the basic political and socioeconomic challenges facing Indigenous nations today
- Critically analyse Australian, Canadian, New Zealand and North American research on Indigenous Nation building and distinguish what successful Nation Building looks like in different Indigenous communities
- Think critically about Indigenous Nation Building and Governance and be able to generate strategies to achieve Nation Building
