Last week, we hosted a highly successful Physics Career Fair, thanks to the collaborative efforts of volunteers, partnering companies, guest speakers, and enthusiastic attendees. Local representatives from Ziltek, GenesisCare, Minelab Metal Detectors, Inovor Technologies, Shoal Group, and Fleet Space Technologies were instrumental in guiding attendees on their career paths.

New Quantum Materials and Device Labs Underway!

These laboratories are crucial additions to the Centre for Quantum Materials and Quantum Technologies (CQMQT), furthering our commitment to pushing the boundaries of quantum science and technology.

Yesterday, the University of Adelaide’s Optica Student Chapter hosted a captivating lecture in honour of the International Day of Light, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of science enthusiasts. Professor Kishan Dholakia, Director of the Centre of Light for Life, led the audience on a journey through the wonders of light in his presentation, "A Trip on the Light Fantastic."

Dr Sarah Scholten Secures Funding for Next-Generation GPS Technology

Dr Sarah Scholten from the School of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences received $392,000 in funding as part of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Early Career Industry Fellowship sheme for her project, Quantum Clock for Assured Global Navigation: Global Positioning System 2.0.

IPAS with the Australian Centre for Quantum Growth

An $18.3 million federal grant led by the University of Sydney to establish the Australian Centre for Quantum Growth has just been announced. The University of Sydney led the successful consortium, which included the University of Adelaide via IPAS, along with most of the major Australian research universities and leading commercial quantum companies.

First commercial-grade optical fibres fabricated in space

 This major landmark in the development of the next generation of optical fibres for quantum communication is part of a strategic partnership between the University’s Institute for Advanced Photonics (IPAS) and Commercial Partner Flawless Photonics Inc.   Australian Research Council, Industry Laureate Fellow, Professor Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem, Deputy Director, IPAS and her ANFF-Optofab team provided 20 special glass rods of ZBLAN, an exotic glass for ultra-low loss optical fibre

Special glass rods manufactured at the University of Adelaide have been drawn into over 11 km of optical fibre on the International Space Station (ISS).
