University of Freiburg

Advancing breakthroughs in biomedicine, sustainability, energy and environmental sciences.

Adelaide University and the University of Freiburg (Germany) are united by a shared passion for groundbreaking research with long-lasting impact.

The Freiburg-Adelaide partnership focuses on two primary thematic areas: Biomedicine and Sustainability, Energy, and Environment. These themes reflect the complementary expertise of both institutions and their commitment to addressing some of the world's most pressing challenges by leveraging cross-disciplinary expertise and pioneering research initiatives.

Areas of collaboration

Freiburg-Adelaide Partnership Fund

The Freiburg-Adelaide Partnership Fund supports joint academic-led projects focused on a shared research interest across the two themes to strengthen existing collaboration or initiate new ones. The funding supports research visits to the partner’s university, joint presentations, seminars and workshops, and activities involving graduate students, doctoral candidates and early-career researchers.

Student mobility

Adelaide University has an undergraduate and postgraduate student exchange program with Freiburg which enables students to undertake a semester (or year) abroad at Freiburg as part of their degree. The exchange offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a different academic environment, broaden their global perspective, and build international networks while gaining valuable overseas study experience.
