Franco-Australian Indo-Pacific Centre for Energy Transition

Adelaide University is part of an international consortium that received more than AUD$350,000 from FACET to research more resilient, data-driven electricity grids. Working with Université Grenoble Alpes, industry partner Schneider Electric, France’s National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), CEA France (Alternative Energies and Atomic Energies Commission) and Australia’s CSIRO, the project focuses on human-centred AI and machine learning to improve the modelling of energy consumption and grid stability as renewable energy sources increase.

Centre of Excellence in Optical Microcombs for Breakthrough Science

Adelaide University researchers are collaborating with a number of UK and European international partners at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Optical Microcombs for Breakthrough Science (COMBS). The Centre aims to explore the society-wide transformations that will flow from optical frequency combs - thousands of highly pure light signals precisely spaced across the entire optical spectrum - by leveraging and building upon the latest breakthroughs in physics, materials science and nanofabrication. It expects to generate a wide new base of knowledge in fields such as astronomy, spectroscopy, chemical sensors, and precision measurement.

Global Executive Master of Business Administration in Defence and Space

GEMBA is a distinctive, purpose-built program designed for senior leaders and public servants in the defence and space sectors. Delivered through a strategic partnership between Adelaide University, Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business in the United States, and the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom, the 18-month program emphasises executive leadership, strategic decision-making, and the latest research in defence and space management. Participants engage in a tailored curriculum focusing on space systems, defence procurement, global security, and digital disruption, with immersive in-country experiences in the US and UK. The program’s UK component includes two weeks in London and/or Exeter, focusing on defence industry procurement, and negotiation and stakeholder management in the defence sector.

Seed dormancy discovery could optimise barley growth

A new discovery by researchers from Adelaide University, in collaboration with Denmark’s Carlsberg Research Laboratory, will allow barley growers to optimise seed dormancy for their crops and improve growing efficiency. The research has facilitated several advances in knowledge about seed dormancy and could have impacts for a range of other crops, such as rice.

Tiny sensors with the power to detect cancer

Microscopic sensors as thin as a strand of hair capable of taking multiple measurements simultaneously could revolutionise the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases like cancer. Researchers from Adelaide University’s Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing and the University of Stuttgart in Germany worked together to develop the tiny sensors using state of the art, ultrafast 3D micro-printing technology.
