Wellbeing Grants 2024

In May of 2024, the student wellbeing team awarded over $15000 of grants to students and staff across the university to support initiatives that foster student wellbeing. 25 applicants were successful in securing a grant with the maximum grants amount being $1000. Further information on how your project may align with the Wheel of Wellbeing can be found here

Focus areas and eligibility

The Wellbeing Grant Project aims to promote holistic wellbeing across the eight dimensions of the "Wheel of Wellbeing".

Applications were evaluated based on their alignment with one or more areas of the wheel. The wellbeing grants assessment panel were committed to taking a well-rounded approach, and supported a diverse range of projects, spread across the year.

Please keep an eye out for those projects that are running in line with the Sexual Health Month campaign (Sextember) and Mental Health Awareness Month campaign (MHAM).

Eat the Rainbow: Fruit and Veg Stall Tuesday 2nd - Friday 5th July, 10am - 4pm. The Hub, North Terrace. A food stall designed to break down barriers for students, allowing them to pick up fresh, healthy wholfruit and vegetables to eat or take home and cook with 
Play for Pride: Brunch  Thursday 27th June, 9:30am-11:30am as part of Pride Month. SkyCity Ballroom.  A brunch at the with guest speakers, designed to unite athletes, advocates and allies in support of LGBTIQA+ representation within the sporting community.  Play With Pride Brunch - Adelaide University Sport (adelaideunisport.com.au)
Upcycling Adelaide Closet Launching Semester 2.  Free business casual and professional attire for the University of Adelaide community who are embarking on job interviews, internships and new employment
Survive and thrive: a workshop for first-year female PhD students August TBC. This workshop will bring together students to discuss challenges and barriers commonly faced by female PhD students. Group and individual activities will allow students to connect and face future challenges with confidence
"Brain Food Box" 8 sessions between July and October. Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences Building. The provision of a ‘brain food’ box including fresh fruit and non-perishable snacks that medical students can access after they complete their 2-hour simulation session at the Adelaide Health Simulation Centre.
Multicultural Celebration for Master of Teaching Students Thursday 24th October, 1:30pm-4:30pm as part of MHAM.
Multicultural celebration event consisting of multicultural activities including performances, cultural dress, music, dance, art, literature, poetry, exhibitions, followed by afternoon tea and cultural networking session.
 
Performance anxiety for musical students: Craig Behenna workshop and meditation Tuesday 17th of September. "Healing the Inner Critic" workshop (2 hours) with Craig Behenna and a guided meditation (1 hour) to help reduce performance anxiety for performing artists.
"Unmasking" Photoshoot for Neurodiverse students  October TBC.
Hughes Building, North Terrace as part of MHAM.
Unmasked Selves– embracing our neurodivergent selves through photos. This once off event gives students who identify as neurodivergent to express themselves with a private photoshoot held on campus. Students are encouraged to come as they are; unmasked and embracing their neurodivergent selves. Students can dress up, bring their own props, and feature their special interests. Students will work closely with the photographer to create a portrait that represents their authentic unmasked selves. Students will receive their portraits on the day and will be able to select up to 10 portraits to utilize on their social media channels or simply to look back on as reminders of the power and joy of unmasking.
"Sushi" making at Roseworthy College  August TBC. This project aims to highlight cultural diversity and bring domestic and international students together over food. Students at Roseworthy College will be invited to help prepare, cook and enjoy a sushi lunch. This project will give students an opportunity to learn new cooking skills, make new friends, relax and gain a deeper appreciation for different cultures.
Healthy Snacks for PASS/writing centre/maths learning centre across MHAM Throughout October as part of MHAM.
This program will provide healthy food relief for students accessing services through PASS, Writing Centre and Maths Learning Centre. Students can take something with them after a session/appointment with the academic support services.
 
MHFA - Encouraging allied health students to complete online mental health first aid training Ongoing. Gift vouchers to increase the uptake and completion of Allied Health students to complete an online Mental Health First Aid training course which has been funded by the Australia Council of Deans of Health Sciences.
Cycle Syncing - Enhancing Female Students' Wellbeing at University Wednesday 17th July 2024, 12:00PM-2:30PM. Barr Smith South 2052. A workshop that unpacks the relationship between menstrual cycles, health, physical and academic performance. Participants can learn about how to balance their lifestyles and implement new habits that improve wellbeing.  Adelaide University Wing Chun Kung Fu Club TBC. A physical training session where participants will be introduced to the culture of Kung Fu and the lineage of Wing Chun in Australia
HDR wellbeing network: Forest Bathing  TBC. This event will be run in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens by Jana Norman, an ANFR Certified Forest and Nature Therapy Guide. Forest bathing (or nature therapy) combines the benefits of embodied practices with mindfulness, and the benefits of psychology and social connection - all in a natural setting. It is an evidence-based practice, immersing ourselves in the natural environment, and enjoying the health benefits that this brings.
Bhangra/Modern Style Dance Class  TBC. A Bhangra/Modern Style Dance Class designed to promote cultural diversity and physical activity on campus. Participants will learn traditional Bhangra footwork and modern dance choreography in an inclusive and energetic environment.
The "Only Woman in the Room" inaugural initiative  TBC. Two unique but complementary events to boost the confidence, wellbeing and sense of belonging/culture of female undergraduate and HDR students across the Schools of engineering. An "I am remarkable" session and facilitated panel discussion with 3-5 local female practicing engineers of various career stages. 
Panel discussion: Reproductive rights  TBC September as part of Sextember. A panel discussion that will provide educational content, explore career pathway options and an opportunity for students to engage with and ask questions of experts within the field of abortion care and advocacy.
English Langugage Centre: Picnic November 17th, International Student Day. Rymill Park, Dequetteville terrace.  A picnic with various games stations, food and music for students who attend the English Language Centre 
Connecting Women in STEM - a cup of tea, paint n sip and communal artwork  Thursday 17th October. This event aims to bring women studying STEM subjects together to connect, build community and mindfully prioritise wellbeing over work. Participants are welcome to have a cup of herbal tea and sit around tables as a group and engage in an art activity as a catalyst for conversation and community building in a low-pressure environment.
Event Series: HDR social science students  4 events across August - November. 4x events that facilitate a sense of identity and community for post-graduate students at the School of Social Sciences. This series addresses aspects of physical, intellectual and creative wellbeing. 
Yoga Props - Blocks and straps (yoga props) for weekly yoga sessions @Bragg Place  Every Tuesday from 4:30pm - 5:30pm, The Braggs Level 2 Conference Room. Yoga props to increase the accessibility of current vinyasa yoga classes on campus.   
"Unwind your mind" at the library  28th October - 16th November 2024, during library hours. Refreshing and expanding the librarys "Unwind your mind" program across all three University of Adelaide campuses. Unwind your mind provides a variety of relaxing and creative activities, designed to encourage students to take a short break from their studies and recharge. This program is run in conjunction with SWOT week/exam period
Seed sessions at Roseworthy  Wednesday 21st and Wednesday 28th August, 6:00pm  Two events, both with dinner. The Seed Sessions are a group of four presentations called The Heroes Collective where the speakers use imaginative, interactive concepts to explore mindset, perspective, learned helplessness and a form of personal growth termed shadow work. The two speakers are sisters, and are graduates of The University of Adelaide, in Veterinary Medicine. These sessions aim to plant a seed relating to different topics, concepts, and tools, and explore different ways of navigating adversity and common life challenges. 
TV Fish Tank Display for Student Well-Being @ Roseworthy  TBC The installation of a TV fish tank display in a central student area. This display will feature a real aquarium within a retro TV display and foster a positive learning environment.
