Why does life require so much admin?

One of the things about adulthood that still shocks me is the sheer amount of 'life admin' required just to survive and function in society. There are so many things that need doing on a regular basis. Paying rent, paying bills. Making sure I'm doing my share of the cleaning. There are forms to fill out. Bank accounts. Tax returns.

Then there's keeping the body working. Going to the doctor or the dentist. Making a meal plan so you get some nutrition in your diet. Maybe planning some exercise.

There are clothes that need mending. Appliances that stop working. Plumbing issues. Social admin. Planning catch ups with family and friends becomes a complicated scheduling exercise sometimes. Then there's remembering people's birthdays and planning gifts.

Even the fun things require so much effort. When I was a kid I thought holidays just happened. I now realise my parents had been planning them for weeks or months in advance.

All I can do is try and keep afloat of the 'life admin' as much as possible. On some miraculous occasions, I get through my do to list and feel accomplished for about three hours until something else comes up that needs to be done. Other times I completely abandon my list and things begin to fall apart.

Maybe I'm just being lazy, but I'm just not ready to accept that I will have to keep doing boring 'life admin' until I die.
