Some air fryer fun

Cooked chicken wings on a grey plat with herbs

I finally tried the air fryer.

I don’t think an air fryer is an essential kitchen appliance but I have to admit, after giving it a try, I’ve found it really useful for someone like me trying to juggle a lot of shifts in a day. Although it’s essentially a min-convection oven, it’s much easier to clean than the full-scale oven and is quicker to heat up. I only make meals for myself and another person in my household and so the smaller size is quite handy. I’m able to make fresh food in smaller batches or even re-heat previously frozen batches. I still prefer getting all my baking done in a traditional oven though.

Also, I quite regularly crave food from my home country and some of the easiest ones are fried. I’ve never tried to deep-fry anything and with the air fryer, I won’t have to try. I’ve done lumpia (our version of fried spring rolls) and lechon kawali (crispy, deep-fried pork).

Here are some of the snacks and meals I’ve made with the air fryer which turned out really yummy! They’re all easily done in a traditional oven too.

  • Halloumi fries with tomato salsa dip
  • Cheesy crispy cauliflower bites
  • Veggie chips – sweet potato, zucchini, and beets
  • Coconut shrimp
  • Breaded porkchops
  • Egg white frittata
  • Chicken wings
  • Meatballs
  • Crispy chickpeas
  • Chicken parmigiana
