Everything you need to know about exams
I remember feeling very anxious for my first university exams last semester. And if you’re feeling the same way, just know you are not alone.
Exams can be scary, but hopefully after reading this article, you’ll find them just a little bit less scary. Whether it’s tips on how to study for exams, or what to bring on the actual day, here is everything you need to know.
In terms of actually studying for exams, it can be difficult to know how to. However, going through your course notes or lectures, completing any practice exams you’ve been given, and making a note sheet if you’re allowed one in the exam; are great places to start. Everyone learns better in different ways, but by revising your course’s content and taking any advice from your teachers, I’m sure you’ll do great! I also recommend going into campus or studying at a café. Personally, I get a lot more work done when I’m not at home, so this might work for you too. Studying with friends in your classes can also be really beneficial, and makes it a lot more fun too.
On the actual day of the exam, there are a few things I always bring with me. And while you’re permitted materials might vary between classes, you should always bring a water bottle, pen, pencil, and a highlighter. Keeping hydrated is so important, and can help your concentration. I always bring a highlighter with me too, and highlight any important words or variables in a question. This makes sure I am reading the question carefully and answer it correctly. And don’t worry, if you forget to fill up your water bottle or forget any necessary stationary at home, there is a water station and YouX booth at the exam venue with access to these.
My last tip for you is to remember to breathe. Exams can be a stressful time for many students. So, remember to take breaks every so often, walk around, eat a proper meal, and stretch. I’m sure if you read the questions carefully and use the given time wisely, you’ll do great in your exams!
