Getting into the Christmas spirit

It is officially holiday season! So, here is a list of activities you can do to get into the Christmas spirit.

Christmas is my favourite time of year. Spending quality time with family, seeing the reactions of loved ones as they open their gifts, every street and shop being decorated in lights, tinsel and ornaments. Life is brighter and full of smiles and laughter in the month of December.

However, I often find myself not in the celebratory mood until a couple days before the 25th. Which is really sad, because I want to experience the Christmas joy for as long as possible! So, I have decided to accumulate a list of activities you can do as well, to get in the holiday spirit. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hannukah, or something else, these activities will create the perfect holiday season atmosphere.

  • Gifts: Finalise your list and start your holiday shopping. Showing my appreciation through buying thoughtful gifts for all the people I care about is one of my favourite parts of Christmas. However, as the countdown to Christmas nears, shops are just going to get busier. So, here is your sign to start your holiday shopping as soon as possible!

  • Decorate: Buy a Christmas tree, lights, a wreath, or other decorations to decorate your house or room. You don't need to spend a lot of money to illuminate your area in the Christmas spirit, and you can even try DIY-ing your own decorations!

  • Self care: During this busy time, it is also important to look after yourself and practice self care! Reach out to others if you need to and be kind to yourself. This is the holiday season after all, you should be taking a break from work or school too.

  • Baking and cooking: There are so many amazing (and delicious) holiday recipes you can try this season! Whether it is a Nutella Christmas tree, reindeer cupcakes, or a Christmas pudding, the opportunities are endless to keep you busy in the kitchen.

  • Activities: Have a gingerbread house building competition with your friends and family, or binge-watch Christmas movies!

  • Donate: Christmas is also the time of giving. If you are able too, donate presents to people less fortunate, or donate your time to homeless or animal shelters.

  • View decorations: Adelaide is already covered in Christmas decorations. Take a drive around the city looking at Christmas lights, visit the Christmas display across from the entertainment centre, or view the giant Christmas tree at Victoria Square.

Hopefully after reading this article, you'll be inspired to listen to some Christmas music and start one of these activities!
