Enrolment

Step 2: Plan your timetable

Plan your courses and preferred classes before enrolment opens.

Continuing students: start here. New students: finish Step 1: Get set up first.

Plan before enrolment opens

Find your study plan and draft your timetable before enrolment opens. Check your enrolment opening date and time in myEnrolment. You must complete your enrolment checklist before you can enrol.

International students

Plan your study before you arrive so you can enrol before classes start. Your student visa usually means you must study full-time. Full-time study is 24 units each semester or 48 units across the year. If you want to study fewer units, talk to Student Assist before you make your plan.

2A: Find your study plan

Your study plan is a list of the courses you need to complete for your program, in suggested order.

Standard study plan

Most new students follow this. It's on your degree page, under Degree structure, and lists the courses you need and the electives you can choose from.

Use the link in myEnrolment to go straight to your degree page. You can also search for your degree on our website.

Set the page to the latest year, and make sure you read any enrolment advice and program rules.

Personalised study plan

If you're a transitioning student from the University of Adelaide (UoA) or the University of South Australia (UniSA), your study plan in the study plan app may still apply.

But if you've since received updated advice about what to enrol in – for example, from Student Assist or your program director – follow that advice instead.

2B: Build your timetable

  1. Check your study plan for the courses you need to take. Plan for the full year, not just the next study period.
  2. Find available classes under Availability on each course page. Note the study period each course is taught in, so you know which one to choose in Manage my Enrolment.
  3. Check each class's location, time and spaces left. Pick a backup in case your first choice fills up.
  4. Write down the class number for each class. It's listed next to each class under Availability. You'll need it in Step 3.
  5. Draft your timetable in the planner to spot clashes early.

Common issues

  1. Go to Study at Adelaide and find your degree.
  2. Select the course under What courses you'll study.
  3. Scroll to Availability.

No Availability section means the course isn't offered this year.

If it's a required course, wait a few days for classes to be added. Still nothing? Contact Student Assist. If it's an elective, choose another one.

If one is on your study plan, it's required. Common Core courses explore big ideas across six areas: Artificial Intelligence, Data Knowledges, Entrepreneurship and Design Thinking, Ethical Knowledges, Intercultural Understanding and First Nations Knowledges.

You don't need any background knowledge. You'll study with students from other disciplines and build skills employers value.

Undergraduates usually take one a year, up to three in total, unless your program's accreditation says otherwise. Transitioning students in the third year of their program in 2026 can choose a University-wide elective instead. More courses are being added over 2026 and 2027. See Teaching and learning.

FAQs

The standard plan, unless you've been given a personalised one or advice from your program director.

You may get more than one personalised study plan or piece of advice during your degree. Always use the most recent one, and keep track of each update.

You've moved into the same or an equivalent Adelaide University program. You should have a Personalised study plan showing what to enrol in. Need help? Contact Student Assist.

Electives let you explore other subjects, if your program has room for them. There are two types:

  • Program electives: a set list for your program. If your program needs them, choose from this list in the Courses section of your degree page.
  • University-wide electives: open to students from any program with free elective space, if you meet the requirements. Browse them on the Electives page.
