Invitation to join the Student Leadership Programs CoP

The Student Leadership Programs Community of Practice is a collection of people who coordinate student-led/peer-to-peer programs and projects, or who are interested in helping develop and support student leadership experiences.

More details about the group can be found here, and further information on the theory and purpose of communities of practice here.

Our CoP is open to staff and students, and we are keen to encourage more academic staff to come along to meetings. We are also focused on partnering with students to shape our activities and have several themed meetings scheduled for 2022, designed to facilitate discussion between students and staff on key leadership topics.

Our next meeting (27 April, 2.30 - 4.00pm) is themed ‘Empowering Student Leaders’, and we will be reflecting on the benefits of leadership experience, and best practice approaches to supporting students to take ownership of leadership roles, develop student-led projects, and empower others.

There will be a brief presentation on an upcoming Student Voice Australia workshop ‘‘Understanding and Engaging with your Institution’, designed to bring together “staff and students to explore the diverse relationships within their institution, to examine the existing student-focused initiatives, and to explore possibilities for improvement by developing new approaches and initiatives which enhance student perspectives” (Student Voice Australia News, 30/03/2022).

Please reach out to CoP facilitator Chelsea Avard for further details about how to attend the April ‘Empowering Student Leaders’ meeting, or join our MS Teams space to find a supportive community, asynchronous discussion, and resource sharing.
