Regular events hosted by the Academy, but open to all staff, are held throughout the year. Recordings, slides and resources from these activities are listed below.

Development and Programmatic Assessment Transferrable Skills in Practice
Prof Michelle French
On Thursday 9 March 2023, the AEA hosted an event for all teaching and professional staff. Featuring Professor Michelle French from the University of Toronto, the event focused on the theme: Development and Programmatic Assessment Transferrable Skills in Practice.
The session was held on campus, with some colleagues joining online via Zoom. It was wonderful to once again have an international speaker back in Adelaide.

Authentic Assessment: Promoting academic integrity and employability
On Thursday 24 November 2022, the AEA hosted an event for all teaching and professional staff. Featuring Associate Professor Popi Sotiriadou from Griffith University, the event focused on the theme: The role of authentic assessment to preserve academic integrity and promote skill development and employability.
In this interactive session Popi shared her experience in designing and delivering scaffolded authentic assessment, including Interactive Orals in a number of courses over the past 5 years.
This successful work on interactive oral assessments was recognised in 2021 by the Universities Australia: Australian Awards for University Teaching with a Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

Beyond student and peer review: other measures of performance in learning and teaching
On Thursday 16 June 2022, the AEA hosted an event for all teaching staff. Evaluating teaching practice and its impact is challenging but vital for development and career progression. Student and peer reviews are often used, but do not provide the full picture needed to both enhance teaching practice or gain recognition for teaching excellence.
In this session, Emeritus Professor Denise Chalmers AM , explored the wide range of evidence types that could be used to measure performance and quality in learning and teaching.

The AEA is proud to present a series of vodcast's featuring Education Specialists from across the University.
This series aims to inform, engage and create a talking point for both members of the Academy and the entire teaching body. They welcome your suggestions for topics or speakers which can be communicated via email.

Flipped Classroom Vodcast - Dr Beth Loveys & A/Prof Peter Strelan
Flipped Classroom and its role in online education
In this edition of the AEA Member Vodcast, Executive Committee members Dr Beth Loveys and Associate Professor Peter Strelan discuss the Flipped Classroom and how using this teaching approach has enhanced the learning experience for their students.
The 'flipped classroom' is the term commonly defined as a pedagogical model in which traditional lecture and ‘homework’ elements are reversed (Hamden et al, 2013; Lage et al, 2000).
Students engage with interactive content focusing on key concepts prior to class, allowing face-to-face time for collaborative activities that clarify concepts and contextualise knowledge through application, analysis, planning and problem solving (Anderson et al., 2001; Karanicolas & Snelling, 2010; Snelling et al, 2009).
The overarching aim of flipped learning is to engage students through responsive learning environments, designed to prepare and motivate them to confidently undertake assessment tasks through interactivity and feedback loops strategically embedded at all stages of this pedagogical approach.
