Things we don't have to do

Sometimes we forget that we don't actually have to do what everyone else is doing just because it's normal, or because it's been ingrained into our brains as a social norm since we were babies. To apologise for something, or to follow trends because social media said so, or hide your true self in fear of being judged. It's good for you! Here's a list of things, we really don't have to do all the time.

Violence against women is a men's issue

It’s Safer Campus Community Week, and I'm wondering how we can hope to create a safe and respectful environment at a time when we are experiencing a global epidemic of violence against one of our most vulnerable groups: women.

A brave step with the ban on plastics

For the first time in my life I saw people walking out of McDonalds with paper straws. Not only am I thrilled by the ban on some single use plastics and the push to phase them out, it also makes me really hopeful for the future.

Lessons from My Octopus Teacher

To be honest, I only heard about this documentary through friends who were posting about how wonderful it was over social media. The title really piqued my interest, but it also made me wonder why so many of my friends were raving about an octopus documentary. I know that many of my friends are divers and marine ecologists, like myself, but would there be a lot to learn from an octopus?
