Ten things to do when I get back on campus
Since being away from campus, face-to-face learning and South Australia, I often forget how much I’m missing certain things and how much I am looking forward to going back. Here are some of my top things I am looking forward to and why.
- Catching up with friends: It is certainly a cliché, but I think it has been really easy to fall into the trap of becoming accustomed to a lack of social connections. Unfortunately, online zoom meetings and messaging just don’t do it for me.
- My favourite café: I have missed my favourite café since I’ve been gone. It was that one place where I know the food and atmosphere is great. I miss the reliability and sense of relaxation I get from going there.
- Staying up late at uni: I miss the crazed feeling I get of being up at midnight in university working on an assignment. The dead quiet atmosphere and the thrill of it is oddly a fun experience (in hindsight).
- Riding my bike: I haven’t ridden around the streets for ages. I miss taking my hands off the handlebars and throwing them up in the air and gliding around corners as fast as I can (I just hope my bike is still in the bike cages where I left it).
- Shopping independently: Although I love being home with my mums cooking and all the food in our pantry, I also miss the perusing of supermarket bargains and planning of meals and dinners.
- Op-shopping: I have my set group of Op-shops I always go to for exciting new clothes and trinkets. When I get back, I am going to buy crap I don’t need mercilessly!
- The central market: I miss all the great food, diversity and fresh produce at the Adelaide Central Market. I look forward to grabbing a couple of loaves of awesome fragrant bread when I get back.
- University events: Although I think the AUU have done an amazing job with all of their online events and engagement, I also can’t wait to get back and hopefully have some in-person (socially distanced) activities.
- Meeting new people: I love meeting new and interesting people through my classes and on campus. Something I haven’t had much of a chance to do last semester that I’m hoping to make up for.
- The beach: I miss catching the tram to the beach and going to that fish and chip shop we always go to. I miss the atmosphere and sunsets over the clear blue ocean.
