Personality tests: a gateway to understanding yourself?

I’m a pretty big fan of taking personality tests. It’s fascinating to learn more about the inner workings of your personality.

Whether it’s the Myers-Briggs test (aka 16 Personalities), the Harry Potter house quiz (fyi I'm in Ravenclaw) or even a Buzzfeed quiz (what does your favourite bread reveals about you??) – taking the time to answer questions which produces a result that explains parts of your personality is very interesting to analyse.

During a particular rough patch in my life, I recall randomly taking a personality test and understanding myself so much more as it revealed how I’m likely to respond to different situations. Although I believe that every individual is inherently unique and cannot be placed in a box, I find personality tests do reveal a lot more than you think so it's important to be open to its interpretations. Also, self-reflection is important. I find knowing your own strengths and weaknesses is valuable. Personality tests often have lengthy information that delve into different aspects of behaviour. So why not do some searching and find out more about your inner mind?

Personality tests are also a great way to find out whether you'd be better suited for a particular career or work environment – perhaps it reveals that you thrive in group settings or maybe you thrive on your own? You can’t go wrong with personality tests if you’re open and honest!

Below find some of my favourite personality tests I’ve taken:

1.16 Personalities

This personality test is probably my favourite - it provides you with a 4 letter combination which represents a specific personality type. Once you've completed the test, it provides a detailed analysis - including strengths, weaknesses, career, friendships, relationships, family and more!

2. The Enneagram Personality Test

Similar to the test above, there are 9 personality types - however this personality test also shows you the percentage of how close you are to each of the 9 categories (so you can end up being typed as more than one category).

3. ‘Which Character’ Personality Test

I really enjoyed this personality test as it provides a comprehensive list of popular TV shows and movies - so once you've completed the questions you select the TV show or movie, and it will show you the character you have the most common traits with. If I recall correctly, I believe my highest percentage was Lisa Simpson (85%)! Some of the TV shows/movies include: Game of Thrones, Friends, Harry Potter & Hunger Games!
