Second-hand shop crawl 

A guide to my favourite second-hand clothing stores in the city.

When I was in Malaysia during the summer break, I went to a bunch of second hand and vintage clothing stores. Before the curated and more aesthetic versions of these stores became famous, we had what were called ‘bundles’ which were basically huge warehouses of second-hand stuff, mostly clothes and sometimes home goods too. You can find them pretty much anywhere in Malaysia, but my tip is to always go for the ones outside of a city – the more random the location, the better.

I’m not so sure if Australia has something similar but I know for sure there are some pretty good vintage and second-hand stores in Adelaide too! Here are some of my favourite ones that I think you should visit over the break. 

We’ll start from East End and make our way to the West Village.

Pound Puppy Vintage

This was probably the first vintage store I visited in Adelaide… and it immediately set the bar high for me. Priding themselves as “purveyors of vintage, pre-loved, and luxury fashion”, the duo who runs this store clearly has an eye for interesting and unique pieces. Also, how cute is the name?

It is rather small but don’t be deceived for they have heaps of other stuff in store – just ask them! If you find something that catches your eye on the shelves (or just something you’re looking for in general) but want other variations of it, let them know and they’ll disappear upstairs before coming back down to present you we some selections.

Fox on the Run Vintage 

Not too far from the last store you’ll find Fox on the Run – also another cool name and another cool store. Make your way down a couple of steps and you’ll find yourself in the 60s/70s/80s/90s with vintage denim, jackets, and band tees among other things. I saw the most gorgeous Western, Americana-esque jacket there once and have not stopped thinking about it since. It’s been ages though, so I reckon it’s in a loving home now.

Goodbyes

I’m so obsessed with this resale store at the moment. You can tell that they know their main audience are younger people or gen-Zs, more specifically, because everything there speaks to the modern shopper – in style, on trend but also affordable. They have certain items on markdowns every week too. I found a pair of ballet flats that gave me Ganni vibes for $40 and an Oroton handbag for $50 once.

Finding Nina Vintage 

Ok, I haven’t been to this one yet but based on their Instagram photos, I think I would love it. The store seems to have like a more romantic vibe to their pieces with vintage slip dresses, fur coats and plaid skirts on sale.

French Laundry 

This sole (at least, to my knowledge) thrift and consignment store in the West Village has it all from designer and local brands to candles with photos of Harry Styles and Lana Del Rey on them. Their stuffs are more modern, so if you’re looking for second-hand and cheaper alternatives of the latest trends online, you can try your luck here!

Oh, and they have a rack for the little ones too, so you can bring your bubs along on your shopping spree!

They are all within the CBD, so you can grab some friends, some treats and have a little second-hand shop crawl. Don’t forget to bring some reusable bags to carry your goods too!
