My R.E.P.O.R.T. for the week
There’s a trend on social media where people highlight the things they’ve been reading, eating, playing with (no definitive activity; it could be anything from experimenting with makeup to playing sports), obsessing over (again, can be anything), recommending, and treating themselves to for the week.
So, I thought I would share some of mine with you today!
Reading
I finally picked up a copy of Bunny by Mona Awad a couple of weeks ago. I’ve had it in my TBR (to be read) list for so long but never thought I’d get it until someone said it would make the perfect a24 movie adaptation, and I love a24’s work, so that was a sign.
I didn’t really know what to expect other than satirical fairy tale horror (that’s what the synopsis in the back says) but so far, it is fairy tale horror alright!
I was tricked into thinking the "Bunnies" were these sweet, hyper-feminine group of girls who eats cupcakes and farts rainbows, but they’re actually something of a witch (?) who turns bunnies into people and murders them.
Gripping and unsettling. I can’t wait to see where the other half takes me.
Eating
I’ve been ordering takeaways from Pondok Daun lately, specifically their crispy fried chicken with flakes and rice. The crunch of the flakes paired with the crispiness of the fried chicken skin is just heavenly!
Playing
I’ve got 3 songs playing on repeat in my earphones right now: Mary and Paul by Big Thief (they’re the titles of two different songs) and British Bombs by Declan McKenna.
They have two very different vibes. One feels like laying on a thick bed of grass and the other makes me want to scream which I think perfectly encapsulates what many of us are feeling at the moment.
Obsessing
Coloured socks and ballet flats.
Recommending
Two TV shows: Ugly Betty (the one with America Ferrera) and Abbott Elementary.
Ugly Betty centres around a young woman who works at a fashion magazine, except instead of living the glam life, she’s constantly being rebuked for not fitting the beauty standard. Abbott Elementary is a mockumentary that follows the teachers of a public school in Philadelphia as they try their hardest to give their students the best education possible despite being outnumbered and underfunded.
Both really funny and makes for a good study break companion.
Treating
Despite telling myself I shouldn’t shop, I ended up buying a denim work jacket and a blue button-up from Uniqlo. I tell myself I deserve it; a congratulatory gift from me to me for completing my internship.
What’s your R.E.P.O.R.T.?
