Student Academic Skills Team

Elise Westin

The Academic Skills team has a new Writing Support Programs Coordinator! Elise Westin introduces herself and her approach to fostering academic excellence and supporting student success.

I am thrilled to introduce myself as the newest member of the University of Adelaide's Student Academic Skills team, stepping into the role of Writing Support Programs Coordinator. It is an honour and a pleasure to join such a supportive community committed to fostering academic excellence and supporting student success.

With a background deeply rooted in higher education and a passion for empowering students, I come to this role with first-hand experience as a Learning Advisor in the University's own Writing Centre. During my time there, I had the privilege of working closely with students from diverse backgrounds, helping them hone their writing skills and navigate the complexities of academic studies.

Prior to joining the University of Adelaide in my current role, I served in various capacities, including lecturing, curriculum design, and coordinating learning support at another institute. These experiences have equipped me with an understanding of the range of challenges students can encounter throughout their studies and strategies to facilitate their academic development.

Central to my approach is a commitment to providing inclusive and student-centred learning support. I believe that every student brings unique strengths and perspectives to the table, and it is our responsibility to create an environment where all feel valued and empowered to succeed.

As the Writing Support Programs Coordinator, I am dedicated to fostering a culture of accessibility, equity, and collaboration, ensuring that our programs meet the diverse needs of our student body.Elise Westin

In collaboration with academic and professional staff, and students, I am eager to develop initiatives that enhance academic writing proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills among students across all disciplines. Whether through workshops, learning support sessions with our experienced team of Learning Advisors, or online resources, my goal is to empower students to become confident and engaged learners.

I am deeply committed to building meaningful relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the university community and I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with you in our shared mission of advancing teaching and learning excellence. Together, let us inspire and empower our students to reach their fullest potential.
