Jennifer Cockburn’s biography of her father Stewart Cockburn (1921-2009) – well-known Adelaide author and national Walkley Award-winning investigative journalist who also worked interstate and overseas during his 45-year career – is based on extensive research using his papers held in Special Collections at the Barr Smith Library.
She also drew on the papers of Sir Mark Oliphant there – Oliphant being the subject of an award-winning biography Cockburn wrote with David Ellyard.
Jennifer will talk about the advantages and challenges of a subject who was a prolific letter and journal writer and who left behind a lifetime of correspondence and memorabilia; and about how she managed to do a lot of the work from home in Washington DC with the help of technology and Special Collections staff.
