Friends of the Library present a Jiří Tancibudek centenary benefit recital in the heritage listed Barr Smith Library Reading Room. A not to be missed musical experience for the long weekend with Celia Craig, former Principal Oboe of Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and founder of not for profit music production company Artaria. Celia will be joined by three friends of her own: Josh Oates, ASO’s new Principal Oboe, her former student; Rosalind Martin soprano and Elder Conservatorium staff member; Caspar Hawksley, guitarist, composer, and recent Elder graduate, The programme ranges from the Baroque to Modern – including Telemann - Sonata in E minor TWV104 for two oboes (1727), Benjamin Britten - Six Metamorphoses after Ovid (1952), R Vaughan Williams - Blake Songs for Voice and Oboe (1957), C. Hawksley - Cherry Waltz (Musica Viva commission) (2021).
Jiří Tancibudek AM (1921-2004)
One of the world's most acclaimed oboists Tancibudek joined the University of Adelaide in 1964 teaching oboe at the Elder Conservatorium and was a charismatic presence within and beyond the University for four decades. He performed with some of the most distinguished artists and conductors and a number of composers have written and dedicated works for him .
The Jiri Tancibudek Memorial Scholarship for Oboe was established in 2004. The Tancibudek archive is held in the Barr Smith Library Manuscript Collections. Visit our website for more information
