One of (if not the) biggest causes of stress for me has been securing a job after uni. Although that still hasn't happened yet, I did have a really positive experience that filled me with hope.

I got a phone call about a placement that was only given to a handful of applicants each year. For me, this wasn't just any placement. It was the best option I could possibly think of. It was in the field I really wanted to end up working in, it had a good reputation, and it would provide me with invaluable experience.

'Somehow your application fell through the cracks, but we'd like to offer you a place,' they said. I was so sure that I'd missed the intake. 'I'll take it,' I said, without hesitation. I knew that it would be a nightmare to juggle a full time placement with a full time uni load, but I was determined to make this work.

Literally while I was concluding this conversation I heard a beeping on my phone, indicating that someone else was trying to call me. When the current conversation came to a natural end, I accepted this other call.

'We were impressed by your resume. Did you know we offer placements?' they said. I felt headhunted, like I had something to offer to the world. I was smiling for a good few hours.

Maybe there is a job out there for me.
