Soaking up the sunny days of winter

Stop and smell the roses

Stopping to smell the roses

Restrictions seem to be quickly easing now but it’s also not quite into the ‘next normal’ yet. We are still in pandemic times and a great number of us are still studying and working from home, or at least ensuring that we are all keeping physically distant in public spaces. It might start getting tough to be outdoors now that the weather’s started to turn chilly but here are a few things you can do to make the most of those sunny days this winter.

  • Go on a quick bushwalk and exercise outdoors. We’re quite lucky here in Adelaide that we’ve got quite spectacular bushwalks so close to the city. The Waterfall Gully to Mounty Lofty Trail is definitely one of the most popular tracks, but if you’re wanting to steer clear of people as much as you can, there are a couple of other lesser known walks you can consider. How about visiting Morialta Conservation Park? The Second Falls Gorge Hike will surely get your heart pumping but the lookout from Deep View will make it all worth it. There’s also a 10km loop walk in Cleland Conservation Park. The tough trail won’t link up to Mount Lofty Summit but will still deliver some good views of the city and allow you a quiet walk amongst the stringybarks.
  • Take your lunch to the Botanic Garden or the River Torrens. A sunny day would be the perfect time to go for a physically distant catch-up with your friends or a group study session.
  • Study outside. Bring all your tech and do some high-quality, focused studying under the filtered shade of the large fig trees in Botanic Park.

Stop and smell the roses. Take a break from studying, from stressing on the future, and put your headset on. Listen to your favourite tunes while taking a walk around your neighbourhood, maybe even take this time to think about all the wonderful people in your life you’re grateful for.
