The Crown is deeply personal
The much anticipated third season of Netflix’s The Crown hit the streaming service on November 18. The show is rightly much praised, for everything from its impeccable set design to understated yet insightful dialogue. I find each and every episode a pleasure to watch.
Best of: Christmas films
Christmas films are very important to me. Both the good and the bad (in fact, sometimes the bad are the most fun). One of my favourite things about Christmas is the ritual of watching new additions that inevitably appear on streaming services like Netflix but, mostly, re-visiting the old classics. It’s no coincidence that, even in Australia, we dream of a snow-covered Christmas, of drinking hot chocolate around the fire, of singing carols, and of wearing warm jumpers. Over the years, we’ve learned from what we see on screen, from the romance, the magic, and the sentimentality that infuses the Christmas film genre. So, in honour of that genre, here’s a list of my very favourite Christmas films.
In praise of: The Amazing Race Australia
I love Channel 10’s The Amazing Race Australia. It airs twice a week, on Monday and Tuesday nights, and is must see TV for me.
Best of: Martin Scorsese films
In case you missed it, Martin Scorsese’s new film, The Irishman—about the Buffalino crime family and their connection to infamous Teamster Jimmy Hoffa—landed on Netflix on the 27th of November after a limited cinema release.
