Florian is a Senior Lecturer and Postgraduate Coursework Program Coordinator with the School of Economics and Public Policy. He is also member of the Adelaide Education Academy.

This month we spoke to Dr Mark Dodd, Senior Lecturer with the School of Economics in the Faculty of Professions. A member of the Adelaide Education Academy (AEA) Executive Committee, Mark is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia.

Also, how she incorporates authentic assessment into the curriculum, and facilitates team-based learning activities.

“Discovery learning begins with a good question or purpose. It takes you on a journey down pathways. Some may be well-lit, others dark and unexplored. You may be alone or in a group. You will use a range of tools, methods, and resources on your journey. There may be leaders, guides, and followers. You will have decisions to make. Some may lead you down blind alleys. Others will lead to discovery”.

Established in 2016, the Adelaide Education Academy (AEA) aims to promote, support and recognise teaching excellence across the University of Adelaide. The sixty-nine full, and four affiliate, members come to the Academy from across the five facilities, and bring with them with a broad range of specialisms and life experiences.

First presented in 1991, Stephen Cole the Elder Awards were established through bequest made to the University of Adelaide by a descendant of Stephen Cole the Elder, pioneer South Australian colonist. We spoke to this year’s deserving winners about what they enjoy about teaching, their teaching philosophy and how they have managed during an extremely challenging 2020.
