Hot tip: use an egg as a stress-ball

I feel a bit like I shouldn’t be sharing this with you, like it’s a valuable secret that I should keep to myself. Except, I remind myself, surely knowledge is something that we should share with as many people as possible, especially in a university; for this reason, I am going to share with you the greatest party trick I have ever seen.

Now, this is going to sound a little bit strange, but please just trust me: you can use an egg as a stress ball. That’s all there is to it. You don’t need to hard boil it, or dip it in cement, or anything. You can just take a regular egg in the palm of your hand and squish it as hard as you can. Nothing will happen. I get that this sounds like it’s some kind of stupid prank. Like the rumour about putting your mobile phone in the microwave to charge it (do not do this).

Except it’s no prank. Someone approached me at a party with an egg in the palm of their hand, and it looked like they were trying to crush it, but they couldn’t. These were guys that hit the gym, and they were putting everything they could into trying to crush the egg, with no success. Naturally, I assumed it was some kind of trick, but eventually they seemed so genuine that I tried it for myself, and I could not do it.

I reveal this newfound knowledge to my sister and my girlfriend. They respond exactly how I did, ‘No way.’ I get an egg out of the fridge, and I hold it over the sink. I hold it in the palm of my hand and try to crush it, nothing happens. ‘No way. You must just be faking it,’ they say. My sister bravely takes the egg for herself and tries to crush it. ‘No way!’ she says.

Maybe this was common knowledge, because people knew that the shape of the egg made int highly resistant to being crushed, but I definitely had no idea, and it has blown my mind.

QUICK NOTE: It seems that some people are actually able to do this. Further research needed into why.
