A wellbeing cuppa

A cup of chamomile tea

Cup of tea

I have recently been drinking a lot of tea and I have found it helps me relax, find routine and unwind.

I was never a big tea drinker. I never thought it was that nice a beverage and I usually couldn’t be bothered brewing it. After all, why not get water from the tap or some milk from the fridge? However, I have recently begun to appreciate the endless ways a cuppa' can help my wellbeing.

Health

One of the great things about tea is all the different flavours, histories and brewing methods. I personally prefer herbal teas over milky ones but I also find a biscuit goes down a treat with a warm milky tea. I find herbal teas clear my pallet and offer more fragrant and aromatic flavours. Of these, my personal favourites are the classic green tea and chamomile tea. After a long day of studying and working, I can often find that I have barely drunk any water all day. In an odd way, a cup of tea is a great way I remind myself to hydrate and drink water. It also allows me to sit down and think by myself or share a cup of tea with someone. Although coffee and alcohol are hailed as social drinks, I find tea works just as well and stimulates a calmer and more relaxed flow of conversation.

Routine

Sometimes I find myself a bit lost throughout the day. I often feel I have so much to do that I I don’t know where to start. So I procrastinate and waste time. The humble cup of tea has recently taught me to just sit and live in the moment. It provides me with a routine, a way of prioritising my afternoon thoughts and activities at a set time. At the moment, I usually wake up and have a cup of tea and then have another after dinner. It is small rituals like this that make me feel ready for the day and ready to wind it up.

My mug

It may sound odd and like a stubborn old man but I do have a favourite mug and it is my mug. It features Winnie the Pooh and reminds of the simple things in life. In an odd way, having a mug that I can say is my mug somehow adds to the whole ritual and calming routine of having a cuppa'.
