It’s ghost hunting time!

It always seems like there isn't much to do for Halloween in Adelaide but I have recently discovered some really cool spooky places to check out.

I love taking photos of spooky places. I am not much of a superstitious person so I always love visiting a place that gives you goosebumps and a good ol’ case of the heebie jeebies. Unfortunately, I didn't really know any of the spots in my first few years and had no one willing to check them out and there is nothing worse than being by yourself in that kind of situations. But this year I have had some time to do some more exploring and have been richly rewarded.

So here are some of my favourite ‘haunted’ spots:

Adelaide Gaol

Did you know that the old Adelaide Gaol is one of the oldest buildings in South Australia and apparently the most haunted?

A total of 45 people were executed during its operation and there are a variety of nighttime and daytime tours for those interested but I will warn you it's not for the fainthearted! Word of advice: bring along a younger sibling like I did to sacrifice in case things get too scary.

Echo Tunnel

Located in Belair National Park, the Echo Tunnel crosses underneath the railway line and is a PERFECT place for some photoshoots or even for just a bit of echo fun. Not so spooky as it is cold and damp but definitely a really nice place to visit because you can just walk straight out into the national park if things get a bit too freaky.

Treasury Tunnels

Ever since arriving in Adelaide I have heard about the urban myth of the underground subway tunnel. I was never 100% sure whether everyone was joking or actually really into conspiracy theories. I found out this year that the National Trust runs tours in the tunnels underneath the Treasury. So what is better than tales of money, murder and secret tunnels? Well, nothing really.

Port Adelaide

There is now  a self-guided walking tour for anyone interested in learning the history of Port Adelaide’s ghosts, available at the Visitor Information Centre. I had to learn about some of the stories through a friend who grew up there and it really gives it more of a spooky gleam at night after someone has just spent an hour stirring you up about it.
