HSW Stakeholder consultation - Information Instruction Training / Training Plan (4.0)

Human Resources have been working on the revised HSW Handbook chapters “Information Instruction and Training” and “Training Plan”.

The intent of the key changes in the chapters is to formalise a “Just In Time” approach to the provision of HSW information, instruction and training (IIT) - in recognition of the University’s complex and dynamic work environment.

The draft chapters outline supervisors’ responsibility to provide suitable and adequate information, instruction and training to keep people safe – whilst simplifying the planning and management of such training plans. The chapters achieve this through requiring workers not to undertake tasks or access equipment / certain work areas until the required instruction or training has been delivered. This enables supervisors and local areas to identify, plan and deliver the required instruction and training prior to access. Simply put, preventing access until identified training has been delivered and a record kept – is a simple solution to an HSW training plan. Current requirements for supervisors to keep training records for Level 2 training (task specific training at the local level) and Level 3 (formal accredited) training are maintained.

Could you please advise/disseminate this information, to the workers in your areas of responsibility in accordance with your consultation arrangements.

Note: that consultation over the Chapter will also be advertised through Staff News under the Policy section.
