An exercise app

Before the lock down and closure of sport groups I had a good exercise routine. I would run with friends twice a week and had joined a couple of sporting clubs. I would always ride my bike to uni and spend most of the day on my feet when I wasn’t in class. A few key things have had a significant impact on my exercising habits.

Closure of Sporting Groups

Obviously having sporting clubs closed has had an impact on everyone’s exercising habits. However, it’s not just that sporting groups are closed but also the removal of a ritual time and place for a set activity. For someone like myself who is highly unorganised and can lack motivation, it makes a world of difference.

Distance from Friends

Not being close to friends anymore means we aren’t there to motivate each other. We don’t have a set time or place to go for a run. We just aren’t there to encourage one another.

Being home without my bike

When I decided to race back home to stay with my family, I had to leave behind my bike. Without my bike I don’t seem to get out as much. It’s no longer as exciting taking off and getting my shopping without my bike. Anyone looking for something to take up while in isolation, I would highly recommend cycling.

The Solution?

I may not have found the solution yet, but I have started to use an exercise app. Nothing too serious, just a daily goal each day that claims to give an intermediate body workout. I’ve only been using it for a few days but I’m finding that the reminders it sets gives me a schedule to adhere to and motivation to go and do it. The exercises themselves leave me feeling physically tired and take away the strain of not knowing what to do and for how long and how long rest intervals should be. It’s the most regular exercise I’ve been doing in weeks so hopefully I can keep it up. It might be something to try if in doubt about meeting fitness goals or something I might even continue to use well into the future.
