Human-Centred Problem Solving
Challenge your thinking, boost your creativity, and immerse yourself in the spirit of reframing challenges as opportunities.
This program is designed to empower you with practical skills that extend beyond the theoretical realm. Upon completion of this course, participants will be equipped to apply human-centred design thinking to tackle everyday challenges in the workplace.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program participants will be able to:
- Use a human-centred approach to solving everyday challenges at work
Workshop Topics
This workshop will cover:
- Introduction to Design Thinking: overview of the methodology and mindset
- Empathy: choosing the right research tool and preparing for and conducting interviews
- Research insights: mining your findings for “aha” moments and reframing the original challenge through a human-centred lens
- Ideation: fun ways to channel your creativity and home in on a top idea to take forward
- Prototyping and testing: turning your ideas into tangible artefacts to gather feedback from users
Delivery mode
The learning experience runs over a month. It commences with a one-day face-to-face workshop where you will explore the design thinking toolkit and try out the instruments there and then.
You will then have a chance to put this into practice by solving a real-life work challenge, that you choose yourself, collaborating in small teams with support from dedicated mentors.
The 4-week learning experience culminates in a final presentation to a panel including your leader, where you can demonstrate the progress you have made and results achieved.
Target Audience
This course is available to all continuing and fixed term staff, academic and professional. Participants will need to identify a continuous improvement opportunity that the learning can be applied to.
