Roseworthy Cattle and Sheep Yards
New covered cattle and sheep yards at the Roseworthy campus will provide contemporary teaching and research facilities for the Vet School and a safe, dry environment for livestock.
Project detail
The project includes demolition of existing cattle yards and adjacent buildings built in the 1960s, and the construction of a re-designed cattle yard, crush area, pens, and main teaching area.
A key feature of the project is a roof over the total planned footprint of the cattle yards (50m x 60m), and a new concrete pad under the new roof. Lighting, associated drainage and other infrastructure will allow extended use of the yards during winter and inclement weather.
Modifications to the existing sheep yards used for teaching, research, and commercial use will include updates to pens, races and fencing, and expansion of the covered area, which will keep staff and sheep dry and undercover during shearing.
Expected completion is May 2025.
